Behrouz Atay, the head coach of the Iranian national volleyball team, is present at Azadi Stadium as a special guest to watch the match between Persepolis and Golgowar. He believes that the capital’s Reds have the main chance of winning the championship in the current season of the Iranian Premier League.
He said: I was on the Persepolis volleyball team for many years. I also love Esteghlal, but since today is a very important match and our training ended half an hour ago, I decided to follow this match closely.
“Soccer is definitely a different sport in the world,” Atay said about the difference between soccer and volleyball in the world. Of course, I think that this difference is not very big in Iran, and because our volleyball team is among the top 10 teams in the world, people look a lot at volleyball and these two disciplines have intense competition.
He also said about the conditions of the national volleyball team: We have a good camp. We have been training since April 27th and have done all the work. On May 27, we will go to Türkiye to play two preparation matches. Next, we’ll go to the League of Nations. Of course, we will play a friendly match against France in front of the League of Nations.
Atay also said about the decline in the popularity of volleyball compared to previous years: “Certainly until now, if the national volleyball team played in Tehran, the hall would be full, and I believe there was no interruption in the national team’s march.” In the year before the Olympics, We were the 12th team in the world, but the previous year we were 7th in the world and we’re growing. Some of our stars have retired and some of them do not play in the national team. I think our guys help the national volleyball.
He also said about his prediction of the outcome of the match between Persepolis and Golgwar and the English Premier League champion: I don’t know how long the match will last, but I think Persepolis will win 2-1. It’s hard to predict the champion, but Persepolis has a better chance.
