Resumption of diplomatic relations between Tunisia and Syria

After a few years of severing relations between Tunisia and Damascus, Muhammad al-Mahdabi, ambassador to Tunisia, presented his credentials to the Syrian Foreign Minister.

According to the report of the International Service of the Sidavasima News Agency, it was transmitted by Al-Mayadeen satellite channel. Tunisia has officially resumed diplomatic relations with Damascus, to correct the historical mistake it committed against Syria.

After a few years of severing relations between Tunisia and Damascus, Muhammad al-Mahdabi, as ambassador to Tunisia, presented his credentials to the Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad. Al-Miqdad stressed the importance of the meeting between the presidents of Syria and Tunisia in Jeddah, referring to the efforts of Western countries to create division among Arab countries and sow differences between them.

Samiha Al-Bougnami, Al-Mayadeen Network correspondent: Tunisia has officially announced the resumption of diplomatic relations with Syria. This step was to correct the historical mistake made by the Tunisian government in 2012 by hosting the so-called conference of countries friendly to Syria. Tunisia confirmed today with its own foreign policy that this action does not represent the will of the nation and the Tunisian government.

Al-Mayadeen correspondent: So Tunisia and Damascus started a new phase of their relations after organizing the joint relations between the two countries. In the future, the two sides will try to strengthen consultation and coordination on bilateral issues and issues. This measure comes within the framework of Tunisian President Kais Saied’s efforts to restore relations to their normal course and correct the historical mistake committed by the previous Ennahda government. The conference of countries friendly to Syria, which Tunisia hosted at the time, marked the beginning of international interventions in Syria.

Muhammad al-Mahdabi, Tunisian ambassador to Damascus: The resumption of relations will be within a dual framework and also within an Arab framework. I think everyone will understand the importance of this work. In my opinion, Tunisia took the lead in this field and made the right choice that benefits everyone.

Al-Mayadeen correspondent: The resumption of relations between the two countries was widely welcomed by the Syrian and Tunisian peoples. According to observers, this step marks the end of the so-called Arab Spring, which began in Tunisia, and will also lead to the resumption of cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

Faisal Azouz, member of the Syrian Parliament: Whoever controls the issues of the Tunisian nation belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood, but the Tunisian nation was able to defeat them and correct the course of this country. The Tunisian government corrected the course of relations with Syria.

Al-Mayadeen correspondent: Many political parties hope that the resumption of diplomatic relations will allow Tunisia to receive more information about sending young people to hotbeds of tension, especially Syria, so that the perpetrators can be held accountable.
